Guadalajara, 19 November 2022 - Two medals - gold and bronze – are arriving to Croatia from the recently completed Taekwondo World Championships in Guadalajara (Mexico), and both were won by the members of the Split taekwondo club TK Marjan. The title of World Senior Champion was won by 20-year-old Lena Stojković in the category -46 kg, while Ivana Duvančić won bronze in the category -53 kg.
As in the saying "save the best for last", the last Croatian competitor at the World Cup took care of highlighting our beautiful homeland in faraway Mexico on the very final day. Lena Stojković completed the 1st round without a fight, in the second she was better than Ukraine's Viktoria Nahurna (2-0), in the quarterfinals she defeated China's Xiaola Wang (2-0). By the same ratio, she advanced to the finals after a semifinal duel with Colombia's Andrea Ramirez Vargas, and in the battle for gold, she overpowered Turkey's Rukiye Yildirim, also 2-0. In an extremely successful 2022, Lena Stojković reached the title of World Champion, and previously defended her European title in Manchester, won last year in Sofia.
On her way to bronze medal in the category -53 kg, Ivana Duvančić first beat Austria's Lea Hoglinger 2-0, then South Korea's Hye Jin Park with the same point ratio, and Spain's Alma Maria Perez Parrado 2-1 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, China's Ju Zuo was 2-1 better than Duvanćić.
The quarterfinals were a level of intransitive obstacles for most of the other Croatian representatives at the World Cup. (NOC of Croatia/VK)
