Zagreb, August 20, 2024 - The Croatian Olympic Committee has received a letter from the President of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, in which he once again expresses his gratitude to the Croatian Olympic Committee President Zlatko Mateša for the decisive measures taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, from which our athletics emerged nearly unscathed.
Of course, the actions taken by President Mateša and the Croatian Olympic Committee at that time were aimed at the benefit and well-being of athletes, something that the head of world athletics clearly recognized. The letter from Sebastian Coe to Zlatko Mateša is presented in its entirety:
Dear Zlatko, dear President, dear friend,
I hope you had a safe and smooth return home from the Olympic Games in Paris and at least a brief opportunity to rest.
I believe you will recall how, after the years of the pandemic, I wrote to you to express my thanks for the unwavering support of your national athletics federation, which is also one of our members, in helping to keep athletes in training and competition. World Athletics will never forget that support. It was this generous gesture that enabled all our athletes to deliver such remarkable performances in Paris and to leave behind indelible records.
Once again, I extend my gratitude, addressing you on behalf of the entire global athletics family.
Thank you
As always,
Sebastian Coe CH, KBE
President of World Athletics
At the end of the letter, the legendary British middle-distance runner and now the head of world athletics extended warm greetings to the Croatian IOC member, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, noting that he enjoyed the time spent in her company during the Games in Paris.
