Kas, 5 October 2022 - At the CMAS Outdoor Freediving World Championships in Kas, Turkey, Croatian diver Petar Klovar set a new world record, diving to the depth of 132 meters in one breath, which is five meters deeper than the old record.
Klovar thus became the competitor with the greatest diving range in history, not only in his discipline but in all disciplines of all diving federations.
- I think it's sometimes hard for someone outside of diving or sports to understand the magnitude of some results. Each, especially this Petar’s score, is the result of many sacrifices, talent, hours and hours of work and professional approach. The deepest dive is what every diver in the world aspires to, it is the essence and basis of snorkeling. Furthermore, to achieve it in the discipline that is not considered the most classic deep and to move it up by five meters is a really big deal and a sports success. At these depths, every meter is difficult and heavier, said coach Vitomir Maričić.
Maričić himself won second place and a silver medal with an excellent dive in the same FIM discipline (110 M) event and is now the only Croatian and third diver in the world to hold medals from all the most prestigious pool and freediving tournaments.
Sanda Delija won bronze medal in women's competition with a national record of 81 meters.
The Croatian Olympic Committee (NOC of Croatia) congratulates Petar Klovar on winning the World Champion title and setting a new world record, Vitomir Maričić on winning silver medal and Sanda Delija on bronze medal at the CMAS Outdoor Freediving World Championships!
