Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games have been postponed by one year and will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021. The new dates for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad were officially announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Government of Japan during a telephone conference held on March 30, 2020.

The capital of Japan was the host of the Games in 1964, the first Games held in Asia, and the fourth Games hosted by Japan. Winter Olympics were held in Sapporo in 1972 and in Nagano in 1998 where our greatest Alpine skier of all time Janica Kostelić debuted. The program of the Games comprises 38 sports and one sports branch according to the Croatian sports nomenclature, including the sports proposed by the Organizing Committee of Tokyo Olympics 2020; Karate, Skateboarding, Sports Climbing, Boarding, Baseball and Softball.

The Preparation and Participation Project of the Croatian athletes at Tokyo Olympics 2020 was adopted by the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Assembly in December 2016.
