Although the ceremony was originally planned for the family only, the basketball legend was bid the final farewell by many friends, teammates, co-workers, former players and basketball fans. Among those speaking about one of the participants in the greatest sports achievements of the former state (basketball gold at the World Cup in 1970) and then the greatest success of Croatian sports in a coaching role (Olympic silver of basketball players in Barcelona in 1992) was his former teammate and lifelong friend Željko Jerkov, current Vice President of the Croatian Olympic Committee and President of the Croatian Olympians Club.
- You were the man who proved to be the best when it was most needed. Let us remember the World Championships in Ljubljana in 1970, when there were five Croats in the fivesome: Skansi, Hardić, Ćosić, Šolman and Plećaš. Back then, basketball was probably more popular than football, and you were the best player in the decisive game with the USA , recalled Jerkov.
Ivo Daneu, his teammate from the 1970 World Championships, the legendary coach of the Split Yellows (Splitski žuti) Božidar Maljković, today the President of the Olympic Committee/Committee of Serbia, and player from Skansi's coaching period, the former Italian National Team member Massimo Iacopini, also spoke at the sad gathering in Ljubljana.
Besides the leading officials of the Croatian Basketball Federation Stojko Vranković and Dino Rađa, the final farewell was attended by the former Slovenian President Milan Kučan, as well as former teammates, friends and admirers: Rato Tvrdić, Branko Macura, Bogdan Tanjević, Peter Vilfan, Radoslav Nesterović, Davor Pejčinović, Josip Reić, Tomislav Družak, Dubravko Šimenc, Ivica Škarić, Željko Jovanović, Miomir Žužul...
The legendary Pero Skansi’s last farewell went along the beats of Oliver Dragojević's song Moj lipi anđele (My dear angel). Eternal thanks to him for all he has given to Split, Croatia and the world basketball! (NOC of Croatia/VK)
