Split, 14 November 2021 - With a 1-0 victory over Russia, the Croatian National Football Team qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In their sixth appearance at the world's biggest event, in Qatar the Blazers will defend their silver medal won in 2018 in Russia.

Let us remind you that at its premiere performance in France in 1998, under the guidance of the legendary coach Ćiro Blažević, Croatia won bronze, while at the World Cups our footballers finished three times already in play-offs (in 2002, 2006 and 2014). Zlatko Dalić became the first Croatian football coach to have the opportunity to lead the Firebirds to three major competitions.

Croatian Olympic Committee’s (NOC of Croatia) President Zlatko Mateša and Secretary General Siniša Krajač congratulated the Croatian National Football Team on their direct qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar:

Our Dear Blazers,

once again you have shown top football skills and an immensely big heart. In challenging weather conditions and on an extremely difficult turf, you achieved victory over Russia, worthy of going directly to next year's World Cup in Qatar. Few can boast with such continuity - by participating at 12 major competitions out of possible 14, and that is why we warmly congratulate you on your latest venture! How much you have cheered the Croats in your homeland and emigration with this triumph, we will witness even in the year to come. Thank you for all the happiness you have brought to every corner of the Globe where Croats live. Remain a national pride whose shine does not fade!
