Zagreb, 26 September 2021 - Two bronze medals were won by Croatian representatives at the brilliantly organized Judo Grand Prix (GP) in the Zagreb Arena. Already on the very first day of Grand Prix, Ana Viktorija Puljiz reached the winning pedestal in the -52 kg category, and the second bronze in Sunday's program was won by Marko Kumrić in the -100 kg category.
The young Solin native beat Germany's Mascha Ballhaus at the start of the competition, then lost to Belgium's Amber Ryheul and finally won bronze in repachage against Spain's Izaskun Ballesteros Gonzalez, whom our junior managed to overcome.
Kumrić defeated Ukraine's Vehero in just 27 seconds in the first round, but the Dutchman Catharina was an too difficult obstacle in the second round, but he returned to the winning track by defeating Switzerland's Eich with hold down technique. In the fight for bronze, he competed against Asley Gonzalez of Cuba, winner of Olympic silver at the London Olympics 2012, performing under the Romanian flag. In a tense battle to the very end, the 25-year-old Split native managed to maintain his lead and achieve his first ascent to the grand prix winning pedestal.
Besides Kumrić, Croatia had two other representatives in the final block of the final day, in the +78 kg category - Helena Vuković and Tina Radić. Both of them finished fifth.
The Croatian Olympic Committee (NOC of Croatia) congratulates Ana Viktorija Puljiz and Marko Kumrić on their bronze medals, as well as the Croatian Judo Federation for their superb hosting of the Grand Prix in Zagreb!
